May 4, 2011

One year ago today we had our meeting at the Embassy. We got past security, which was the initial building we entered, then through the door, down the sidewalk, into another building, and guess what...more security. We had to leave our cameras, phones, passports...with the first security station, so now we were down to our dossiers alone. We waited shortly to speak with the consulate whom we had spoke with by phone yesterday. During our wait we truly enjoyed the american style restrooms and the ac, it was a comfortable place to wait. She notarized both our families documents and gave us her card if we needed anything later. We saw a true blessing of this side trip later in our trip; God's hand on us when we couldn't understand why we were needing to jump through this hoop. The consulate asked about our appointment to see her about our visas, honestly we didn't know the answer, we were pretty dependent on our POA's because they had it all in plan and under control, but we had heard it would be on our last Friday in country so we told her that. Letting her know of this today truly helped us on that Friday!

We then zipped back over to the ministry to submit our newly notarized documents and the van dropped us at a local coffee shop while the other families had a visit with their kiddos at Home of Hope. While we were there we got word that our referral letter had been written and moved to the minister's desk for approval. This was our first joyful moment in the process in country. We had felt hope, completion and the tiniest bit of progress, but this news sent us through the roof and I remember running to the bus to yell to our group the wonderful news.

We got closer that day to seeing our son!

A view of the beautiful city of Kigali (thanks to one of our great travel buddies):
