One year ago today was a long day, very long. We left our hotel in Washington, DC with our many suitcases and headed to the airport again. We were so excited when we arrived at the check-in counter and saw a family ahead of us that looked like they could be taking the same trip as us, we spotted their many suitcases, their backpacks ... When they turned around we knew and we met our first fellow travelers, the Hackers and their friend Anna. What fun it was to see the others in our travel group who would be flying over with us. We all gathered together at our gate once we had made it through security. We were able to finally meet the McLennans, the Sharps, and the Kellys. It was a fun experience to begin our travels seeing these other families in person, those we had "known" for the last many months online.
We spent the remaining time getting to know each other a bit and sharing our excitement. We were able to see some pictures of their little ones, what a joyful time. Then we boarded the flight and spent the rest of this day flying over the ocean to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
We didn't sleep much, we were so excited. We watched a lot of movies, read a little, got up to walk around often and spent some more time chatting with our new friends. It was an experience and much better than I expected, the plane was actually pretty roomy and I didn't feel the movement so I wasn't so fearful as I can usually be on flights. It was a great new adventure, but a long flight when we were all so anxious to get to Rwanda.
